KRCH-Newsletter

Welcome to the KRCH Newsletter
The Kwai River Hospital(KRCH)is located in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, and is a public health and community service center serving a mountainous rural area along Thailand's border with Myanmar(also called Burma)since 1960. The work of KRCH is multi-faceted and wide ranging, with the simple goal of helping all people in need of medical services within our community.
KRCH provides medical care to needy and vulnerable patients of the various local ethnic groups, refugees,*migrants, single parents, orphans, and people living with HIV/AIDS. (*ie: no Thai citizenship papers and therefore no subsidized access to government health services)
Our PUBLIC HEALTH and EVANGELISM programs continue to provide health care and education to the population served by KRCH.
KRCH handles approximately 13,000 outpatient visits each year, and administers ongoing programs for diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy. Displaced Persons from nearby Refugee camps are also referred to us for serious medical problems and surgery.
KRCH is also a research center for the study of malaria, influenza, TB, and other tropical diseases, in cooperation with the ARMED FORCES RESEARCH INSTITUTE of MEDICAL SCIENCES (AFRIMS), which is a Thai-American coalition.
We have many long stay patients who are either children themselves, or are adults with children living with them at the hospital. These children often go without schooling for long periods of time.
It is our desire to provide a formal education on site for these children during their stay at KRCH.
Over the last few years, we have attempted to initiate some educational programs for these children. However, due to the lack of regular funding, the programs have so far been fairly informal and ad-hoc.
We have had some donations of sporting or stationary exercise equipment which has helped. However, we need a regular sponsor to set up a formal education program.
